There is reaching, and then there is Zion Logue at pick No. 174. The Cowboys jumped the board by 67 and dared it to prove them wrong. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had cheaper options than Payton Wilson at the 56th overall pick, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Edefuan Ulofoshio well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Khyree Jackson in the 91st pick, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Cam Hart at Round 4, Pick 24 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Justin Eboigbe in pick 128, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Braiden McGregor at No. 171 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A real head-scratcher, Zion Logue in the 174th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A big swing on Xavier Thomas at slot 212, well ahead of any board in the building. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A premium they did not need to pay, Derek Wingo a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
