When a board-topper like Graham Barton slides to pick 85, you do not overthink it, and the Eagles did not.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A quiet steal in the 50th overall pick: Bralen Trice for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Devontez Walker higher than Round 2, Pick 22, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Graham Barton in slot 85 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Christian Haynes in pick 97 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Jalyx Hunt in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, McCallan Castles at No. 163. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Kamal Hadden at the 172nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylan Ford in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zakhari Franklin in Round 7, Pick 23. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
