The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Luke Lachey slide 40 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a disruptive interior force, outstanding value to boot.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in pick 79. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Hollin Pierce in the 148th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 207 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Luke Lachey in pick No. 238 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaishawn Barham in the 250th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
