The war room fell hard for Jawhar Jordan, and it showed at the 245th overall pick: 34 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is not that Bullock is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Nubin in Round 2, Pick 9, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaylen Wright at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Calen Bullock at safety with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots open.
Dominick Puni at pick No. 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Ben Sinnott in slot 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in the 169th overall pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A quiet steal in No. 202: Cornelius Johnson for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid up for Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 219 when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
Jawhar Jordan at slot 245 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jalen Sundell is a better player than pick No. 255 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
