New England Patriots

Grand theft in No. 136: the Patriots steal Kinchens and grade out a A.

Thirty-one other rooms let Kamren Kinchens slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at pick 136. Highway robbery. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

The Ed Ingram pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In pick 11 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 10
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 34 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 40
Tyler Guyton at the 38th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
Good price on Chop Robinson in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 43
They will replay J.J. McCarthy at Round 3, Pick 4 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 36
Xavier Legette in pick No. 104 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Kamren Kinchens in the 136th overall pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 115
Tyrice Knight in slot 182 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 188
You do not let a running back like Isaiah Davis reach slot 227 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 222
Tanor Bortolini in No. 229 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
