The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McGlothern. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Holker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in slot 34, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Devontez Walker in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in No. 103, where Khyree Jackson graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dallin Holker a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Grayson Murphy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dwight McGlothern in pick 193 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Garret Greenfield slipping to pick No. 231 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
