Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

The Chargers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Blake Corum at pick 38 regardless, 40 picks early.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.

The Dillon Radunz pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 37
In No. 13 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 57
Value said wait; T'Vondre Sweat in the 37th overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 78
This one needs a full-page explanation: Blake Corum in pick No. 38, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 63
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Powers-Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 74
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in pick 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 128
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cade Stover. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 131
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dallin Holker this early at the 112th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 156
A reach on Darius Robinson in slot 142; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 180
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sam Hartman in No. 183. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 183
They took Christian Jones at par in the 184th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 238
They paid a round early for Cody Schrader in Round 7, Pick 6, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
