They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Getting McGlothern where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at No. 3, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in slot 34, with Graham Barton worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Xavier Worthy higher than the 68th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Cam Hart in Round 4, Pick 3, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Isaiah Adams at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Dwight McGlothern in the 180th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Isaiah Williams is a better player than pick No. 193 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Dominique Hampton in pick 231, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
