The Chargers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Keon Coleman, the No. 36 name on the board, in slot 69.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Nugent lower, and that gap is the story.
The Kamren Curl pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at slot 40, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Keon Coleman at No. 69 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Blake Corum in pick 81, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Khyree Jackson was still sitting there in the 104th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Tyler Davis, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Drake Nugent in Round 6, Pick 8 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 223 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Sheridan Jones in pick No. 256 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
