The trade table was a mismatch, and the Packers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
The Shirden reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Getting Nubin where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Chase Roullier pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Ladd McConkey at the 36th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Morgan at the 41st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Tyler Nubin here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Payton Wilson is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Max Melton in slot 88 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Mike Sainristil, who had no business lasting to pick 91. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sinnott. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
James Williams slid further than he should have, and No. 139 is lovely value for the safety. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Dylan Laube at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Drake Nugent in pick No. 202, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Caedan Wallace went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 245th pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Jaden Shirden at slot 255 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
