The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Kamari Lassiter, the No. 40 name on the board, sitting there at the 83rd pick like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
Reimer has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at the 33rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Terrion Arnold in the 40th pick, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Amarius Mims at No. 51 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Troy Fautanu in Round 3, Pick 2 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kamari Lassiter in pick 83 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in pick No. 94, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Dominick Puni at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Hart at slot 135 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let James Williams come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 2. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Malachi Moore this early at the 139th overall pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Value said wait; Luke Reimer in No. 197 says they were not listening. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 217 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They paid a round early for Jahdae Barron in the 219th pick, more than the board wanted. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jase McClellan in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
