You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chargers did exactly that with Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 37.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hart. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A real need, handled.
Value said wait; Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 37 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 5, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Roman Wilson in pick 105 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cam Hart slid further than he should have, and slot 142 is lovely value for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Cody Schrader at pick 226, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
