The Chargers torched the value chart for Cody Schrader, taking him 54 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A real need, handled.
A real head-scratcher, T'Vondre Sweat in No. 37 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Jackson Powers-Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Donovan Edwards, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Theo Johnson in slot 142 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cody Schrader at pick 183 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Carson Steele in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
