It is a puzzling start. The Chiefs had tight end, quarterback and other spots to solve and reached instead for Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE, at pick 91. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Landing Williams that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Rice has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 30 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach for Brenden Rice in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A surprising call. With tight end, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 91 on Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE they were not short of.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Davis in the 93rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jarrian Jones at Round 4, Pick 28 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Kitan Oladapo in No. 161 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Curtis Jacobs in the 171st overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Baker. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Miyan Williams in pick No. 206 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
