You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Hancock had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Burch reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Aireontae Ersery was the payoff at slot 61. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Jordan Burch at No. 79, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a wide receiver like Elic Ayomanor reach pick 85 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Mello Dotson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 148. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A running back of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 29 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Kiser at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
Somehow Jordan Hancock was still sitting there in the 250th pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
