This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tahj Washington, the No. 192 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 3. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Every board in the league had Nugent lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 17 they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kris Jenkins a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on T.J. Tampa in No. 48; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Kingsley Suamataia in the 69th overall pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Mekhi Wingo went about where he belonged in the 106th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 3: Josh Newton for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Roger Rosengarten at pick No. 152 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Drake Nugent at the 183rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 3 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Erick All in slot 232 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
