The Chargers did not so much draft Darius Robinson as overpay for him, 128 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The Pearsall value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A clean fit for the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Darius Robinson at the 70th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Roman Wilson at the 106th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 143 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a cornerback like Zy Alexander reach No. 184 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ricky Pearsall in pick No. 227 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
