When a board-topper like KeAndre Lambert-Smith slides to the 250th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick 61 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Darien Porter at No. 79, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Hollin Pierce in pick No. 148 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ollie Gordon II in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Cobee Bryant at Round 7, Pick 20 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the 250th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
