The Jake Briningstool pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 41 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Vinson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kyle Kennard in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jackson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in slot 107, where Savion Williams graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They jumped the gun on Raheim Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Jake Briningstool in pick No. 207 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Jamon Dumas-Johnson in slot 238 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 250th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
