After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Reaching for Reiman left real value on the table behind him. That Melton pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd pick they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Value with a capital V on Kool-Aid McKinstry in slot 36, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Patrick Paul in the 40th overall pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ricky Pearsall at pick No. 78 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Max Melton at Round 3, Pick 37 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Johnny Wilson slipping to pick 139 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Tip Reiman at No. 152, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Nathaniel Watson, who had no business lasting to No. 222. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
