You build a draft on nights like this. Cobee Bryant had no business being available in slot 238, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at Round 2, Pick 29 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 79 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Hollin Pierce at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 207 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Cobee Bryant still on the board at pick 238. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Jaishawn Barham come to them and pounced at the 250th overall pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
