This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Kaden Wetjen, the No. 217 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 239. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Jacas has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid up for Gabe Jacas at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 25: A.J. Haulcy for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They went early on Malachi Lawrence in the 60th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Logan Jones in No. 89; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jalon Kilgore at pick 129 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kaden Wetjen at the 239th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
