Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Dolphins spent the 131st pick on Taylen Green, a name most had 55 spots down the list.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stowers. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Max Iheanachor at the 43rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Chase Bisontis in Round 3, Pick 11, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keionte Scott at the 77th overall pick is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Taking Jake Slaughter in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Eli Stowers in pick 94 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Ted Hurst at the 95th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Royer. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Drew Allar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Taylen Green in slot 131 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dametrious Crownover at pick 151. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They did well to land Charles Demmings in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Bryce Foster at No. 227 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Robert Spears-Jennings this early at the 238th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
