The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Hollin Pierce, the No. 118 name on the board, sitting there at the 148th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Every board in the league had Barham lower, and that gap is the story. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 61st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Bond at Round 3, Pick 15 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Hollin Pierce was still sitting there in slot 148, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Jaishawn Barham in pick 207 says they were not listening. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Circle this one: Trey Zuhn III at the 238th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
LaJohntay Wester in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
