This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: LeQuint Allen, the No. 135 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot.
Roberts has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach on Aireontae Ersery in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Tate Ratledge at par in Round 3, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick 77, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Jake Majors in the 106th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Elijah Roberts this early at No. 144. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on CJ West in the 217th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled LeQuint Allen all the way to slot 220, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Cobee Bryant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
