There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Commanders started one anyway for Cedric Johnson, 72 picks ahead of schedule. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
However the rest shakes out, Bullard at that price is a win they earned. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bo Nix in pick No. 36. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Troy Franklin. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A safety of that caliber at the 67th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Max Melton in No. 78 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Theo Johnson at slot 100 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Roger Rosengarten in slot 139, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cedric Johnson. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Matthew Jones at Round 7, Pick 2, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
