Miami Dolphins

A solid, sensible weekend for the Dolphins: B-.

The Dolphins bet big and early on Eric Gentry, 125 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

However the rest shakes out, Scott at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
They read the board right and Jeremiyah Love was the payoff at the 11th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
Nothing to complain about; Emmanuel Pregnon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
Steal is underselling it; Jake Slaughter at pick No. 77 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 60
They will replay Keionte Scott at the 87th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
No drama and no debate, Ted Hurst went about where he belonged in pick 90. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Joe Royer · TE · rank 126
A tidy little value on Joe Royer in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Zxavian Harris · DT · rank 154
A straight-up fair deal on Zxavian Harris at the 151st pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.20 · Pick 160 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
Drew Allar in pick 160 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 352
They reached a country mile for Eric Gentry at pick No. 227, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.13 · Pick 229 · Isaiah Jatta · OT · rank 244
Isaiah Jatta in slot 229 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Riley Mahlman · OT · rank 292
Riley Mahlman at the 238th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.39 · Pick 255 · Enrique Cruz Jr. · OT · rank 291
They reached into another round for Enrique Cruz Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
