The board owed the Ravens one, and it paid up: Jake Slaughter, the No. 58 name on the board, sitting there at No. 77 like a gift left on the doorstep. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Joshua Josephs at pick No. 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Slaughter in pick 77, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Skyler Bell at No. 82 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Deion Burks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Darrell Jackson Jr. at the 116th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Charles Demmings at slot 146 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Kage Casey in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Jeff Caldwell went about where he belonged in pick No. 189. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A quiet steal in No. 250: Jaren Kanak for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
