Washington Commanders

Daniels is the plan now, and the Commanders grade out a B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

Paul has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Tracy Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 6
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Daniels at pick 2, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 85
Patrick Paul in the 36th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 70
They reached into another round for Kingsley Suamataia, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 65
They took Cooper Beebe at par in slot 67, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 58
Somehow T.J. Tampa was still sitting there in pick No. 78, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
Khyree Jackson in the 100th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 137
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in Round 5, Pick 3; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Tyrone Tracy Jr. · WR · rank 126
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 152 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 203
Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 2 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
