The Packers bet big and early on Elijah Jones, 25 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Landing Shipley that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Nubin at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A tidy little value on Braden Fiske in No. 58, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dominick Puni in the 88th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in pick 91. It fills a real need, too.
Will Shipley in pick No. 127 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Elijah Jones at Round 5, Pick 32 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylan Ford at slot 204. A minor itch, scratched.
No edge and no loss on Tyrice Knight in the 216th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Trevin Wallace at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Value with a capital V on Evan Williams in pick No. 251, a genuine coup. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
