The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 51 name on the board, sitting there at No. 82 like a gift left on the doorstep. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Corleone left real value on the table behind him.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with safety the one that mattered most. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Dontay Corleone at the 49th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a safety like Emmanuel McNeil-Warren reach the 82nd pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Connor Lew in slot 97. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Marlin Klein in No. 163, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeff Caldwell at pick 196 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Thaddeus Dixon at Round 7, Pick 18 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
TJ Hall in pick No. 235 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Somehow Aiden Fisher was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
