There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Chargers never got to the one that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Every board in the league had Guyton lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Guyton at pick 37 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 69th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid up for Max Melton at pick No. 105 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Sincere Haynesworth at the 142nd pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Michael Barrett in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Jabbar Muhammad at Round 7, Pick 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
