The Chargers' one glaring miss is edge rusher, a need they left exactly as they found it. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If Thompson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a red-zone target to build around. A real need, handled.
Kalen King in pick No. 37 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at pick 69 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Leonard Taylor III went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 5. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Barrett. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Stefon Thompson at slot 226 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
