Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The Ulofoshio pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Trotter Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
A real head-scratcher, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in slot 40 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Josh Newton slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christian Haynes in pick 75 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Spencer Rattler in the 100th overall pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
They went early on Beau Brade in the 102nd pick, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach on Theo Johnson in the 141st pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick No. 181 for years; that is how good the value is. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
The board fumbled Miyan Williams all the way to the 223rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
