There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Bears started one anyway for Kobe Baynes, 25 picks ahead of schedule. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
On value alone, Singleton makes the weekend a net positive. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a three-down second-level presence, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 60th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let D'Angelo Ponds come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 30. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jacob Rodriguez slipping to slot 89 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at pick No. 108 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Nicholas Singleton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Kobe Baynes in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Zavion Thomas at No. 239 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nolan Rucci in pick No. 241 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
