The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 37 spots for Will Shipley, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
With quarterback and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in the 28th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Chris Braswell in pick 41, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Bullard. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Mike Sainristil at pick No. 88 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zak Zinter in Round 3, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Davis at the 91st pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Will Shipley at pick No. 92, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A curious use of No. 128. Quarterback and tight end needed the pick; a safety in Cole Bishop did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, LaDarius Henderson well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steele Chambers at the 203rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on Zion Logue at Round 6, Pick 42, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Dwight McGlothern at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
