The war room fell hard for Tyler Onyedim, and it showed at pick No. 218: 56 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Landing Golday that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The Quincy Williams pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jermod McCoy in the 24th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They did well to land Jalon Kilgore in slot 107, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ted Hurst in pick No. 112 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Trey Moore at Round 5, Pick 12, and the board did not agree. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They took Keagen Trost at par in pick No. 177, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Dae'Quan Wright at the 180th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Tyler Onyedim at the 218th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
