You build a draft on nights like this. Ollie Gordon II had no business being available in No. 222, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Tetairoa McMillan at pick No. 4 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 6 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Trey Amos in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Deone Walker slipping to No. 77 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ozzy Trapilo in the 105th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Hollin Pierce was still sitting there in slot 145, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
JJ Pegues at the 219th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ollie Gordon II in pick 222 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Seth McLaughlin went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 22. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
