Washington Commanders

The Commanders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a A-.

The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Frank Gore Jr., 126 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The veteran additions, Josh Uche chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 50
They went early on Kris Jenkins in Round 2, Pick 4, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
Jordan Morgan in slot 40 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 72
They paid sticker price for Sedrick Van Pran in pick 67, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
No edge and no loss on Cade Stover in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 95 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 100 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
Tommy Eichenberg at pick 137 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Braiden McGregor · DE-EDGE · rank 173
They reached a country mile for Braiden McGregor at No. 139, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 148
Fair-plus on Justin Eboigbe, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Trajan Jeffcoat · DL-EDGE · rank 308
A real head-scratcher, Trajan Jeffcoat in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
