Thirty-one other rooms let Kyle McCord slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at the Round 7 slot. Highway robbery.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
They let Clay Webb come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 25. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jay Higgins at the 91st overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
The board had Armand Membou higher than the Round 4 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Nic Anderson was still sitting there in No. 185, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dane Key in pick No. 202 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Collin Oliver at slot 231, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Kyle McCord in pick 243 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
