The Chargers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They will need Williams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Bralen Trice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Troy Fautanu at Round 2, Pick 5 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Edgerrin Cooper was the payoff at the 69th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Roman Wilson at the 91st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Gabriel Murphy at pick 105 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Jaheim Bell in slot 142, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jase McClellan in No. 189 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Roger Rosengarten at Round 6, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Evan Williams. It adds depth where they could use a little.
