Somebody in Round 6, Pick 28 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 117 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalon Walker at Round 1, Pick 29 is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Omarion Hampton in pick 61 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Tory Horton at slot 146 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier specialist at a bargain, Ryan Fitzgerald in pick No. 203, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They paid sticker price for Clay Webb in the 236th pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Briningstool at No. 247. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
