Call it larceny. Nicholas Singleton sat on the board until the 219th overall pick, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The veteran additions, CeeDee Lamb chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Abdul Carter and all.
Pick-by-Pick
Abdul Carter at pick 13 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Colston Loveland here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Quinshon Judkins all the way to pick No. 138, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Nicholas Singleton in Round 7, Pick 3, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Kobe King in the 220th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Shilo Sanders at par in slot 238, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
