The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Wilson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Reaching for Paul left real value on the table behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Nate Wiggins is a better player than pick 36 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Patrick Paul at the 40th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in No. 67 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Roman Wilson in pick No. 78 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Theo Johnson in slot 100 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Johnny Wilson at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 16. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
JD Bertrand at the 222nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
