There is reaching, and then there is Moose Muhammad III at the Round 7 slot. The Cowboys jumped the board by 126 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The Majors pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
DeVonta Smith gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
A slide stopped in the Round 1 slot, with Ashton Jeanty worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Omarr Norman-Lott in Round 3, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach pick No. 148 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cam Skattebo at slot 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Michael Taaffe in the 170th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jake Majors in pick 173 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 186, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 209th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Moose Muhammad III well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
