The Commanders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: TreVeyon Henderson, the No. 71 name on the board, in the Round 5 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Adding Ennis Rakestraw Jr. by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Luther Burden III in No. 55 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to the 147th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Lander Barton in Round 6, Pick 23 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaishawn Barham at pick No. 235 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Taking Donovan Edwards in the 239th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a linebacker like Jamon Dumas-Johnson reach slot 245 and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
