You can draft well and still miss the point. The Giants did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to interior defensive lineman, which was the need that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They are betting Cohen proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Getting Smith where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A clean fit for the roster.
Ladd McConkey in pick 39 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
J.J. McCarthy in the 47th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Blake Corum went about where he belonged in No. 70. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in the 108th overall pick, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Javion Cohen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylan Ford at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
