Somebody in the 151st overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cardinals sat still while Barrett Carter, the No. 83 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The cost of the Gabriel reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th pick they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ozzy Trapilo at No. 47 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jihaad Campbell at slot 78 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Dillon Gabriel at Round 3, Pick 17, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Joshua Farmer at pick No. 113 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 151 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
