The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Reaching for Jones left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Taylor-Demerson at that price is a win they earned.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach for Graham Barton in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Roman Wilson at slot 68 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Foster at the 104th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Theo Johnson at Round 4, Pick 36 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 182, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Matthew Jones in No. 229, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
