The rest of the league will want that one back. Lander Barton tumbling to the Cowboys in No. 209 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Thornton Jr. lower, and that gap is the story.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. More want than need.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Walker at slot 43. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyleik Williams at No. 74 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Nicholas Singleton all the way to the 148th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 168th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sonny Styles at pick 170 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Circle this one: Oronde Gadsden II at pick No. 171 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 6, Pick 11 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Lander Barton at pick 209 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
